LobePro has successfully engineered and built pumps for wastewater treatment, and we’ve seen firsthand how important positive displacement (PD) pumps are in these tougher applications. Today, we’re exploring how PD pumps work and why our customers rely on us for quality rotary lobe PD pumps.
How a Positive Displacement Pump Works
At their most basic, PD pumps simply move fluid around by creating a vacuum. Fluids and gasses always want to fill up empty space–so by creating a vacuum within the pump chamber, it draws the fluid into the chamber, and then can cycle it out into the connected pipework, all just through pressure and fluid displacement principles.
At LobePro we believe–and have seen tried and true proof–that rotary PD pumps like our rotary lobe pumps, are the best type of positive displacement pump for most screened wastewater applications. Rotary pumps utilize a rotary action in order to produce flow and pressure within the chamber and move wastewater and sludge from one section of the system to another. This results in advantages such as predictable flow, consistent pressure, lower wear and tear, and higher material handling versatility than other types of PD pumps.
LobePro’s Rotary Positive Displacement Pump Capabilities
LobePro’s rotary lobe pumps can serve a variety of applications, including in the more abrasive and challenging environments of wastewater processing. We typically build pumps for moving and handling sludge in wastewater applications, carrying the material to and from thickeners, separators, digesters, and clarifiers, where the sludge can then be processed.
Our positive displacement pump is an excellent choice for wastewater applications with hard solids up to ⅛” and pressures up to 150 PSI, and can pump prescreened primary sludge, secondary sludge, activated sludge, dissolved air flotation sludge, tertiary and other sludge materials. Our pumps are durable and compact, and inexpensive to repair, and in their typical applications, steadily pump abrasive materials without ragging, delaminating, or seal failures.
